Occupations and financial interests

Members of Parliament who are not ministers must register their occupations and financial interests according to the rules below.

Purpose

It is the purpose of the register to promote greater transparency regarding the occupations and financial interests of the Members of Parliament.

Ministers may register their occupations and financial interests according to the rules. A list of members who refrained from registering their financial interests is published on the website of the Danish Parliament. 

 

Rules regarding the registration of the occupations and financial interests of Members of the Danish Parliament*

(Adopted by the Standing Orders Committee on May 18th 1994 and with amendments adopted by the Standing Orders Committee on December 13th 2001, March 3rd 2005, October 1st 2012, December 12th 2012, December 18th 2014, and November 4th 2015)

Section 1. 

Members of Parliament who are not ministers must register their occupations and financial interests according to these rules.
(2) Substitute Members of Parliament are subject to the rules when they have been Members for four consecutive weeks.
(3) Ministers may register their occupations and financial interests according to these rules.

Section 2. 

The following occupations and financial interests must be registered:

Income

1) Paid directorships in private or public companies. Position and company are to be registered.
2) A paid position, occupation or the like in addition to the position of Member of Parliament. Position and employer/principal are to be registered.
3) Independent income-generating activities in addition to being a Member of Parliament. Register which kind.

Gifts, visits outside Denmark, and financial support etc.

4) Domestic companies, organisations, institutions, or individuals that provide financial support for the Member, including donations in kind, secretarial support and the like, other than the means provided by the Danish Parliament or the party of the Member of Parliament. The name and kind of support are to be registered.
5) Gifts from domestic donors if the gift has a value that evidently exceeds DKK 3,000 and the gift is attributable to membership of the Danish Parliament. The name of the donor, the nature of the gift and the date of receipt are to be registered.
6) Travel and visits outside Denmark where the costs are not paid in full by government funds, the party of the Member or the Member him-/herself and the travel/visit is attributable to membership of the Danish Parliament. The name of the donor, the dates of the visit and the name of the country visited are to be registered.
7) Any payment, financial benefit, gift or the like received from a foreign public authority, organisation or individual when the value evidently exceeds DKK 3,000 and the payment, etc. in question is attributable to membership of the Danish Parliament. The name of the donor, and the nature and date of the payment, etc. are to be registered.

Financial interests

8) Company interests with a value that evidently exceeded DKK 75,000 as of 31 December prior to registration according to section 3, sub-section 1, and recently acquired commercial interests after 31 December that evidently exceeded DKK 75,000. The name of the company is to be registered.

Agreements with former and/or future employer(s) about current or prospective relations

9) An agreement of an economic nature with a former employer, including an agreement about paid or unpaid leave of absence, continued payment of wages or continuation of employee benefits, pension rights or the like during membership of the Danish Parliament. The nature of the agreement and the name of the employer are to be registered.
10) Agreements about employment or the like with a future employer, regardless of whether the employment will take effect only after the Member has resigned from the Danish Parliament. The nature of the agreement and the name of the employer are to be registered.
(2) The value or amount of the occupations and financial interests mentioned in subsection 1 will not be registered.
(3) Information mentioned in subsection 1, nos. 4-7, will remain on the register for four years from the date of receipt of the gift, etc.

Section 3.

Registration must take place within a month of the convening of a newly elected Parliament, the approval of a substitute Member as an ordinary Member, or the duty to register applying to a substitute Member. New registrable information, including registrable information regarding recently acquired company interests or changes to previously registered information, must be registered within a month of the new information becoming available. However, the registration of company interests, the value of which rose to evidently exceed DKK 75,000 only after the time of acquisition, may take place in connection with the annual reminder of registration.
(2) Registration must be reported to an official appointed by the Presidium. The forms used for the registration must be approved by the Presidium.
(3) The register must be available to the public 20 weekdays (Saturdays excluded) from the expiry of the deadline following a general election by application to the official in charge of the register or in the form of a copy of the register posted in the Danish Parliament.
(4) When new information is registered or changes to previous registration occur, the previous registered data about the Member will be filed. The deadline for the update is 10 weekdays (Saturdays excluded) after the Member has registered the new information.

Section 4. 

The register is published on the website of the Danish Parliament.
(2) A list of members who have refrained from registering their financial interests is published on the website of the Danish Parliament.

Section 5. 

The rules come into force after the next general election.
