The Rural Districts and Islands Committee

The Rural Districts and Islands Committee works with topics related to the living conditions in/on and the development of rural districts and small islands. The committee addresses topics related to the challenges facing rural districts, e.g. settlement, employment, ferry services, property loans and other important matters.

The tasks and responsibilities of the Rural Districts and Islands Committee

Associations, organisations and citizens in rural districts and on the small islands have access to the Danish Parliament via the Rural Districts and Islands Committee.
The committee observes and debates bills and motions, the content of which affects general or common conditions in rural districts and on the islands. The committee also keeps itself up-to-date on current issues and development trends in rural areas of Denmark.
The committee maintains an overview of developments in rural districts and on the islands, and seeks to engage in a dialogue with the relevant ministers. To learn more about specific cases, the committee can also invite to committee hearings.
Associations, organisations and members of the public are welcome to contact or make an appointment for an audience with the committee if they wish to notify the committee of a case or issue within its remit.

Study trips

Several times a year, the committee makes study trips to rural districts of Denmark to see and hear about rural development and how these districts are tackling the challenges they face. During the study trips, the committee invites citizens to attend a public meeting. The committee endeavours to enter into close dialogue with people living in rural areas.
