The committee monitors the development in rural districts and on the islands, and actively engages in conversations with relevant ministers. For in-depth insights into specific cases, the committee may also hold hearings.

Rural districts, small islands, associations, organizations, and residents are encouraged to reach out and schedule an audience with the committee if they have a matter within its remit that they wish to bring to its attention..

Examples of cases handled by the committee:

  • settlement and employment (including State employment)
  • growth and development
  • ferry services to the islands
  • property loans
  • mobile phone and broadband coverage
  • education

Study trips

Several times a year, the committee embarks on study trips to rural districts across Denmark to witness the rural development and learn about how these districts are tackling the challenges they face. During the study trips, the committee invites citizens to attend a public meeting. The committee strives to foster open and meaningful dialogue with people living in rural areas.
