The Danish Parliament, in collaboration with the Danish Building and Property Agency, has initiated a major construction project to restore and transform the historical and listed buildings that once housed the National Archives. The new space will be used to enhance parliament’s citizen-oriented activities and improve and modernize the framework for parliamentary work.
With this project, the Danish Parliament aims to:
- create an open and inviting parliament accessible to all
- support democratic participation and encourage more individuals to engage in democracy
- strengthen opportunities for interactions between citizens and politicians, as well as enhance public understanding of the political process
- establish modern and well-functioning facilities that support parliamentary work
An essential aspect of the construction project is maintaining a balance between respecting the cultural heritage of the buildings while always keeping the future use of the buildings in mind.
