The Vision

The Danish Parliament aims to establish new and improved facilities for an open, accessible, and engaging democracy.

The Danish Parliament, in collaboration with the Danish Building and Property Agency, has initiated a major construction project to restore and transform the historical and listed buildings that once housed the National Archives. The new space will be used to enhance parliament’s citizen-oriented activities and improve and modernize the framework for parliamentary work.

With this project, the Danish Parliament aims to:

  • create an open and inviting parliament accessible to all
  • support democratic participation and encourage more individuals to engage in democracy
  • strengthen opportunities for interactions between citizens and politicians, as well as enhance public understanding of the political process
  • establish modern and well-functioning facilities that support parliamentary work

An essential aspect of the construction project is maintaining a balance between respecting the cultural heritage of the buildings while always keeping the future use of the buildings in mind.
