Pia Merete Kjærsgaard, born February 23rd 1947 in København, daughter of paint dealer Poul Kjærsgaard and housewife Inge Munch Jensen. Married to Henrik Thorup, vice-chairman of the Public Accounts Committe.

Author of the autobiography »Fordi jeg var nødt til det« (Because I had to), 2013 and of the book »…men udsigten er god« (…but the View is Good), 1998. Editor of »Jul på Borgen VII« (Christmas at Christiansborg VII), 2020, »Jul på Borgen VI« (Christmas at Christiansborg VI), 2019, »Jul på Borgen V« (Christmas at Christiansborg V), 2018, »Jul på Borgen IV« (Christmas at Christiansborg IV), 2017, »Jul på Borgen III« (Christmas at Christiansborg III), 2016, and »Jul på Borgen II« (Christmas at Christiansborg II), 2012. Co-author, together with Henrik Nordbrandt, of the book »Digteren og Partiformanden« (The Poet and the Party Chairwoman), 2006.

Awarded Commander of 1st class of the Order of Dannebrog 2018, Commander of the Order of Dannebrog 2014, Knight of 1st Class of the Order of Dannebrog 2002 and the Order of Dannebrog 1994. Awarded the Grand Cross of the National Order of Merit (France) 2018. Awarded The Nordic Blue Berets Medal of Honour in gold 2018. Awarded the Order of the Aztec Eagle (Mexico) 2017. Awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of the Crown (Belgium) 2017. Grand Cross of the Icelandic Order of the Falcon 2017. Awarded the Order of the Brilliant Star. Awarded the medal of honour Friend of Overseas Chinese Association and the Special Medal of Diplomacy in Taiwan. Recieved the communication price of 'Altinget' Ting-Prisen 2007 and 2014. Awarded the Golden Coach Horn by 'Dansk Postordre Forening' (the Danish Mail-Order Association). Nominated Politician of the Year by 'Landsforeningen for Erhvervsinteresser' (the National Association of Business Interests). Received the Kosan Award.

Bills, speeches and questions
The Administration of the Danish Parliament records data regarding the Danish Parliament's parliamentary documents. The Administration of the Danish Parliament also records Members' names and the dates they speak in the Chamber, put questions to the Ministers and submit Bills. This information is linked via the individual Member's page to the matters, in which the Member has been involved.
Appointments and financial interests
The Danish Parliament's Legal Services Office, i.e. the department in the Administration of the Danish Parliament that is responsible for controlling records, records Members' appointments and financial interests. A Member of Parliament who wishes to be listed in the records is, however, personally responsible for reporting relevant information to the Legal Services Office. Members are also personally responsible for reporting any changes in their appointments and financial interests.
Listed Members are obliged to report new and amended information to the Legal Services Office not later than one month after the new information becomes available, after which time the Legal Services Office updates the records. The Legal Services Office sends listed Members an annual request to renew their consent to listing.
