Electing the Ombudsman and the Ombudsman’s annual report are also within the Legal Affairs Committee’s remit.
The committee’s tasks and responsibilities can be subdivided into two primary areas:
- handling of bills and motions within the committee’s remit
- parliamentary scrutiny of the government in the legal policy area
The committee is also responsible for keeping itself broadly up-to-date with legal affairs.
Parliamentary scrutiny is exercised through the standing committee members’ tabling questions to the Minister for Justice or other ministers.
Export meetings and hearings
The committee also calls so-called “expert meetings” and hearings, which are either open or closed to the public.
Contact the committee
Organisations and members of the public are welcome to contact or make an appointment for an audience with the Legal Affairs Committee if they wish to notify the committee of a topic within its remit.
Visits and study trips
The committee makes study trips in Denmark and abroad, to gather knowledge and inspiration. The committee also receives delegations from e.g. foreign parliaments.
