Pia Merete Kjærsgaard, born February 23rd 1947 in København, daughter of paint dealer Poul Kjærsgaard and housewife Inge Munch Jensen. Married to Henrik Thorup, vice-chairman of the Public Accounts Committee

Parliamentary career
Member of the Standing Orders Committee from 2015. Spokeswoman on values 2012-2015. Former member of the Foreign Policy Committee, the Committee on the Danish Intelligence Services, the Foreign Affairs Committee and of  the parliamentary assembly of the Organisation on Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). Member of The Nordic Council 1990-1994 and 1998-2000. Former deputy member of the management committee of the Danish group in the Inter-Parliamentary Union. Member of the Defence Commission 1997-1998. Delegate at the UN General Assembly in New York in 1995, 2000, 2003, 2006, 2011 and 2012. Co-founder and chairwoman of the Danish People's Party October 6th 1995 - September 15th 2012. Political leader of the Progress Party 1985-1994.

Member of the council of representatives of Danmarks Nationalbank 1989-1996. Member of the board of representatives of the Danish Arts Foundation 2009-2011. Member of the board of representatives of the Danish Arts Council 2009-2011. Vice-chairwoman of the governing body of the Danish-Taiwanese Association from 2009.

Co-author, together with Henrik Nordbrandt, of the book »Digteren og Partiformanden« (The Poet and the Party Chairwoman), 2006. Editor of »Jul på Borgen II« (Christmas on Christiansborg II), 2012, editor of »Jul på Borgen III« (Christmas on Christiansborg III), 2016 and editor of »Jul på Borgen IV« (Christmas on Christiansborg IV), 2017.


Awards
Received the Kosan Award. Nominated Politician of the Year by 'Landsforeningen for Erhvervsinteresser' (the National Association of Business Interests). Awarded the Golden Coach Horn by 'Dansk Postordre Forening' (the Danish Mail-Order Association). Awarded the Order of Dannebrog, Knight of 1st Class of and Commander of the Order of Dannebrog. Awarded the medal of honour Friend of Overseas Chinese Association and the Special Medal of Diplomacy in Taiwan. Recieved the communication price of 'Altinget' Ting-Prisen 2007 and 2014. Awarded the Order of the Brilliant Star. Grand Cross of the Icelandic Order of the Falcon 2017. Awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of the Crown (Belgium) 2017. Awarded the Order of the Aztec Eagle (Mexico) 2017.

Bills, speeches and questions 
The Administration of the Danish Parliament records data regarding the Danish Parliament's parliamentary documents. The Administration of the Danish Parliament also records Members' names and the dates they speak in the Chamber, put questions to the Ministers and submit Bills. This information is linked via the individual Member's page to the matters, in which the Member has been involved.
 

Appointments and financial interests 
The Danish Parliament's Legal Services Office, i.e. the department in the Administration of the Danish Parliament that is responsible for controlling records, records Members' appointments and financial interests. A Member of Parliament who wishes to be listed in the records is, however, personally responsible for reporting relevant information to the Legal Services Office. Members are also personally responsible for reporting any changes in their appointments and financial interests.
 

Listed Members are obliged to report new and amended information to the Legal Services Office not later than one month after the new information becomes available, after which time the Legal Services Office updates the records. The Legal Services Office sends listed Members an annual request to renew their consent to listing.
