Kickstart of the Single Market in Copenhagen – 47th COSAC-Plenary Meeting

How do we best kick-start the Single Market and create sustainable economic growth in Europe? This is the key question to be addressed by an interparliamentary conference hosted by the Danish Parliament on 22-24 April 2012.

The President of the European Commission, Mr. José Manuel Barroso, will alongside three prominent Members of the European Commission discuss this issue with more than 160 members of parliaments in the 27 EU member countries, the 6 candidate countries and the European Parliament.

Furthermore the conference will discuss proposals on how to give national Parliaments in the EU further possibilities to engage in a strengthened political dialogue with the European Commission in particular on the substance of issues related to the new closer economic cooperation within the European Semester.

The conference is the largest among the Interparliamentary Conferences hosted by the Danish Parliament in connection with the Danish Presidency.

The conference is chaired by Ms Eva Kjer Hansen, chairman of the European Affairs Committee in the Danish Parliament. The Program includes interventions from Mr José Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission, MS Helle Thorning Schmidt, Prime Minister of Denmark, Michel Barnier, Commisioner for Internal Market and Services, Malcom Harbour, Chairman of the Committee for Internal Market and Consumer protection in the European Parliament, Janez Potočnik, Commissioner for Environment, Neelie Kroes, Vice-President of the Commission & Commissioner for the Digital Agenda
