Members of the Presidium visited Vietnam and Indonesia

The members of the Presidium of the Danish Parliament visited Vietnam from 5-7 March and Indonesia from 8-12 March at the invitation of the parliaments of the two countries.

In addition to discussions with their hosts, the members of the Presidium also had the opportunity to meet the Prime Minister and the Minister for Justice in Vietnam, the President and the Minister for Foreign Affairs in Indonesia, a number of leading representatives of the civil society and the business community and Danish businesspeople and development workers.

 

The Speaker of the Danish Parliament, Mogens Lykketoft, gives a lecture in Indonesien In Indonesia, the Presidium visited two of the most well-reputed universities, and Mogens Lykketoft gave a lecture on Danish democracy and the Danish social model at the University of Indonesia and answered students' questions about combating corruption and the influence of capital on the political system.

During discussions in the two countries, the members of the Presidium emphasised the advantages of having strong, independent institutions such as the Public Auditors and the Ombudsman to monitor the executive power on behalf of the Danish Parliament and the public.

The visit will help to further opportunities for a major increase in cooperation with the two Asian growth economies for the benefit of sustainable economic development and for Danish companies.

Præsidiet i Vietnam marts 2012 Vietnam has been a partner country receiving Danish development assistance since 1994 and this cooperation will continue until 2015. The Danish Parliament also offers a special programme for Vietnamese parliamentarians. Additionally, Danida has projects in Indonesia that highlight green energy, the protection of natural resources and good governance.
