The Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Palestinian Authority, Dr. Riad Malki, visited the Danish Parliament where he met the Speaker, Mogens Lykketoft.

During the meeting, Minister for Foreign Affairs Malki reviewed the current status of the peace negotiations between Israel and Palestine. He also found the time to talk about as well the Palestinian application to the UN for “non-member status” as the general political developments in the Middle East in the wake of the Arab spring.

“I have considerable sympathy for the Palestinian desire for greater commitment, not least on the part of the EU, in ensuring that a two-state solution can finally become a reality,” said Mogens Lykketoft after the meeting.

After his meeting with the Speaker, Dr. Malki met the Danish Minister for Foreign Affairs, Villy Søvndal.

Dr. Riad Malki has been Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Palestinian Authority since 2007. He was formerly the Minister of Information and a government spokesman. Dr. Malki has played an active role in achieving international support for Palestinian membership of the UN. He was awarded the European Peace Prize in 2000 and received the Italian Peace Prize (Lombardi) in 2005.
